Subscription Creation

In order to become a subscriber of the List, you must do the following:

  1. Create a new message, addressed to:

Cayugabirds-L-Request@cornell.edu

  1. Type the following text into the body of the new message:

JOIN “Your Name”

  1. NOTE: The text within the quotation marks is to be replaced with your own first name and your own last name. You must include the quotation marks as a part of the text.

  1. Send your message. You will receive a subscription confirmation message shortly.

Subscription Configuration

PLEASE NOTE: each Configuration option outlined below must not be sent to the entire List. These Configuration options must only be sent to the Request address identified below.

Digest

Once you are subscribed, you may choose to set your subscription to Digest, so that you only receive one message at the end of each day. This message will contain all individual postings for that day, within that one Digest message. With this setting, you will not receive each of the postings at the time that they are contributed to the List.

In order to set your subscription to Digest mode, you must do the following:

1.   Create a new message, addressed to:

Cayugabirds-L-Request@cornell.edu

2.   Type the following text into the body of the new message:

SET DIGEST

3.   NOTE: The message must be sent from the email address which was originally subscribed to the List.

4.   Send your message. You will now receive one daily message in Digest mode.

Regular Mail

At any time, you may choose to return your subscription settings back to Regular Mail mode, so that you will receive each of the postings at the time that they are contributed to the List.

In order to return your subscription to Regular Mail mode, you must do the following:

1.   Create a new message, addressed to:

Cayugabirds-L-Request@cornell.edu

2.   Type the following text into the body of the new message:

SET MAIL

3.   NOTE: The message must be sent from the email address which was originally subscribed to the List.

4.   Send your message. You will now receive each of the postings at the time that they are contributed to the List.

Vacation

Once you are subscribed, you may find the need to set your subscription to No Mail, so that you stop receiving messages altogether. This setting is useful if you are going on vacation or are going to be “out of the office” for some extended period of time. No Mail will allow you to maintain your subscription to the List, but will cease delivery of messages to your subscribed email address.

In order to set your subscription to No Mail mode, you must do the following:

1.   Create a new message, addressed to:

Cayugabirds-L-Request@cornell.edu

2.   Type the following text into the body of the new message:

SET NOMAIL

1.   NOTE: The message must be sent from the email address which was originally subscribed to the List.

2.   Send your message. You will now no longer receive messages from the List.

3.   When you are prepared to begin receiving messages again, simply follow the instructions on how to set your subscription settings to Regular Mail again. These instructions are outlined above in the Regular Mail section.

Email Address Change

Over time, you may find the need to change your email address to a different email provider. The most effective way to change your old subscribed email address to a new subscribed email address is to do the following:

1.   Subscribe your new email address by following the specific instructions outlined above in the Subscription Creation section.

2.   Remove your old email address by following the specific instructions outlined below in the Subscription Removal section.

3.   NOTE: you must still have access to your old email address in order to complete step number two (2). If you do not have access to your old email address any more and would like to have the old subscribed address removed from the List, you must contact the current Listowner to request manual removal. The contact information for the current Listowner is below, in the Questions, Concerns, and Comments section.
